1895 Modified Victorian

Living Room

The living room is large enough that we were able to hold our wedding ceremony there.  At that early stage we had little furniture, so there was plenty of space to put rented chairs sufficient for 30 or so guests.  There was even room in the very back to squeeze in a lute player.  (The original plans called for a harpist, but her instrument simply would not fit.)

Now, several years later, the living room is full of furniture in spite of a promise to each other to keep it simple.  Right.  When a neighbor sent us the floor plans from Scientific American, we discovered that the fire place was an add-on.  We suspect that the new fangled central heating system was not trusted.  The fireplace was a back up just as the gas lighting was for the knob and tube electrical wiring.

Two pictures are combined to give you an idea of the actual size of the living room.  The dining room is through either of the French style doors

Another surprise from the floor plans was that there was suppose to be a wall between the living room and the bay window area.  Again, someone changed their minds and again, we are delighted.  Having a wall would have created two good sized rooms, but also two rather isolated areas.
