1895 Modified Victorian

Not a volt or amp to spare

With only a 100amp electrical supply our old home was seriously under powered.  The stove, hot water, dryer, washer and furnace ate up almost all the power. Until we could get an upgrade, I got really adept at running Rear of 1895 house under heavy repair to the basement to replace fuses.  By the way, I first had to find the right fuse box....there were several.  Now we can actually flip a switch to get light in the bathrooms and even plug in room air conditioners with no fear of burning the place to the ground.

I am a little fuzzy on this, but I swear the gas company called us and offered a deal.  If we would go all gas, they would update our main line, replace the oil burner and electric hot water heater and pipe us for a gas dryer and gas stove.  No charge.

Heh, gas was cheaper then and besides, we both love a gas range.  We were getting the last laugh when an errant ice storm shut off the electricity.  We could still keep warm, eat HOT food and take long hot showers.

During one very loud day, there was a backhoe in the street ripping a hole for the large new gas line, a jack hammer on the roof for the new furnace flu, four roofers hammering away and a really annoying phone call from someone offering us aluminum siding.
