1924 Rochester House

The First Floor

Living and Dining Rooms

Kitchen, Bath and Entrance

The first floor has a living room, dining room, kitchen, study or bedroom and a bathroom.  There is also a tiny foyer that leads up the stairs, through a door (shown extreme left) to the living room, or straight on toward the kitchen.

As mentioned, the first thing everyone pitched in to do was get rid of the green rug.  There are beautiful wooden floors now revealed in both living and dining rooms. The living room walls are in great shape except for one curious spot to the right of the fireplace.  There is a crack in the wall running about 18 inches with minimal separation and lift.  No other indications exist to show a big problem.  OHNE should be so lucky to have only one crack in one wall.....

The dining room is through an archway in the living room.   Connected to the dining room is the kitchen through door to your left and study (or bedroom) with a bath through the right hand doorway.

Dining room through the living room archway. What you cannot see in these photos is just how much brighter the whole house looked after the carpet was taken out.

Carpet that lays about for some 30 to 40 years also cannot help but develop a really interesting aroma.  No matter how clean you are, every smell created in the house seems to immediately "go to carpet" and continues to ripen.

There were a couple of stains on the carpet in the dining room along with the expected traffic wear pattern.  Our fears of those stains indicating a bad fluid spill were unfounded.
