1924 Rochester, NY House

OHNE has been invited (after a lot of pleading) to follow the experiences of a new home owner.  He found a house built in 1924 near the heart of the city of Rochester, NY.  The city may sound familiar as the home of Eastman Kodak company, maker of the first cameras for public use.

Our initial visit gave us a chance to tour the entire house from basement to attic and get a few pictures to share with you.  As we make additional trips over to Rochester, we will add more pictures and more information 1924 house living room with fireplace and archway to dinning roomabout the new owner's plans.  The house is in excellent condition, but there are already plans brewing to change a few things.  There are also the usual little repairs associated with any older home.

The first floor large living room has a fireplace with a small built-in bookcase to the left. Most of the base and door trim appears to be gum wood and in excellent condition.

The owner was told the fireplace works, but he has been cautioned to have an expert check it out to make sure it is safe.  For some reason, the opening is now covered by a piece of cardboard.

First order was to get rid of the ugly green shag carpet. As you can see above there was also the typical and ugly green shag carpet of the 60's in both the living and dinning rooms.

First order of business was to get rid of that carpet.  The owner and two really good sports are shown pulling about a bazillion staples out of the floor. The staples were used to hold the carpet padding in place.  This was  chore and a half.

Take a look at the carpet removal.
