Japanese Garden: It is in the Details

Japanese gardens are known as places where you can get in touch with your inner peace.  In particular, the interesting use of water seems to calm the soul.

Japanese gardens show up in the smallest of places.  This one is located just to the left of the main door to this hotel.  When you stand in the lobby, you can see a variety of plants and the beautiful lamp.  What appears to be a lamp to us may indeed be a Shinto Shrine belonging to a particular family.

I took this picture some ten years ago on a trip to Japan.  There are more pictures within the Imperial Gardens and Japanese Details features.

This drinking stone is located in the Imperial Gardens in Japan.  Note the moss on the "lamp" in the background.

There are two ladles on the side of the stone.

Another example of a drinking stone.  This sample was found at the entrance to a cemetery and shrine. Water comes out of the bronze dragon's mouth.

I never saw anyone actually drink from any of these water stones.
