Springfield Preservation TrustFounded in 1972 by a concerned group of pioneering homeowners living in the Quadrangle-Mattoon Street Historic District,  the Trust has played an important role in the growth and preservation of our historic districts and other historically significant buildings that are located outside of Springfield's six historic districts.

We are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to property restoration, education, and advocacy.  We have helped restore numerous properties, going so far as to move houses to avoid demolition.  Our activities range from legislative advocacy of preservation issues to hosting several tours of historic homes each year.  We have maintained a speaker's bureau, surveyed historic neighborhoods and nominated districts to the National Register of Historic Places.  Occasionally we have been seen as a little radical---like the time we stood in front of the bulldozers and delayed the destruction of the historically significant Samuel Bowles II house.

Why do we do it you might ask?  Because preservation makes sense, dollars and cents.  And we do it because we're believers.

Preservation works!
