3rd Floor Bath
| Progress Report # 2.
insulation
There was a huge delay as we awaited plumbing
and electrical inspections before we could go ahead with the "button
up" process. "Button up" means we can go ahead and put on
the wall coverings, ceiling and floor.

Up goes the insulation!

After the walls, plumbing, and electrical were
roughed in and inspected by the building, plumbing, and electrical
inspectors.... my next job was to get the insulation up.
Looks and actually is pretty simple. Just need to be careful
about handling this stuff, even when it has a "total"
wrap. After you cut each piece there are two ends open to your
eyes, skin and worst of all, your lungs. You must follow all the
precautions listed on the insulation.
You are asking why there is a big gap in the wall. That is the
inspection access that is required by code. There is a bunch of
electrical and plumbing connections behind this new partition. You
must provide a way to get to all that.

You can see where the plumbing
has been roughed in by Joe the Plumber. I was looking at the pipe
he installed the other day and have to tell you, it was almost "art
like" the way the pipe related to each other and the new
walls. Ok, too much wine with lunch.
Notice that the electrical boxes are also in place. Guess who forgot
to put a nailer in for those bubbas. Had to do that the
night before the electrician came back.
All of this is why you should do a check sheet that matches each step
of the plan. No, I did not do that and I have made some
interesting mistakes because of a lack of detailed planning.

At this point, Anna and I had kind of "locked up" on
what to do about wall coverings. I felt strongly that sheet rock (wall
board) would be best for the bath. On the other hand, I agreed that
something softer, but still light in color would be a nice touch. Off to
the local home store we went looking for various wall coverings. We looked
at sheet rock, paneling of various types as well as various thicknesses of wood
boarding. As you will see in Progress Report #3
we decided on a combination.
