Third Floor Bathroom

THE FLOOR PLAN

Changes again! | Progress! | Progress #2

floor plan for new third floor bathroom with showerI took  the floor plan off the wall and scanned it  so you could see what we have in mind.  By the way, I used software downloaded off the internet from Home Plan Pro.com.   Cheap and does the trick.

The space available is about 7'9" by 5'9".  Even though there is a slanted ceiling, there is still almost 7' clearance at the minimum.

The vanity will not be against the outside wall as shown.  Anna found a cute European style vanity that will fit nicely exactly in the middle of the soon to be back wall of the bathroom.  That will leave room on either side for more stuff.  She wants to put a wire rack for towels on the left side.  I would like to put in some shelves, but we will have to see how things go.

It has also been suggested that we put in a pocket door between the vanity area and the shower/toilet area.  I like the idea, but have never made a pocket door before.   Remember that I am STILL working on that second floor bathroom too, so progress is as it can happen!  I also had to remove some shelves that were blocking the hallway on the third floor.  Of course, I really did a number on the walls.

More Changes!

Ambiguity is a main cause of stress.  Get used to it.  We have changed again the plan for this bathroom.  Instead of the vanity being centered against a far wall, we have now decided to scoot it to the right a bit so that there is more storage and closet space to the left.  This will also allow access to the plumbing and electrical systems behind a new wall.  I think it will look ok when done, but right now it looks a bit odd.

Testing the placement of the new sink with possible wallsI took some sheets of plywood to give us an idea of how the layout might go.   We have to be a bit careful on how far "back" to place the vanity since the ceiling slopes a lot.

Even us normal height people could bump our heads if the vanity is too far back.  Abnormally tall people (anyone over 5'7") would put quite a dent in our new ceiling.  We also need to leave enough wall space between the top of the faucet and the ceiling for a mirror.  Have not a clue where to put a vanity light, but will have to decide on that very soon.

To the right will be a new wall that will run beside the new toilet. I want to put that wall as far back as possible to leave more room for the toilet.

To the left will be a storage and closet area that will also allow access to the plumbing and electrical systems.  The new wall next to the toilet is needed to hide a HUGE waste stack running all the way from the basement out through the roof.

There has been a rush of progress of late!
