Demolition of the old kitchen
Tearing out the old kitchen turned out to be a bit of a bigger job than even
we anticipated. Once we got the old cabinets down, we found out that a large
section of the old lath and plaster wall was in just too bad shape to
keep. Down came the ceiling and two full walls. That meant the
dumpster we had ordered was undersized as well. The dumpster was not the
only thing undersized for this job. I about broke my spirit on this
one. Just too soon after the marathon third floor bathroom epic.
Thank goodness one of Anna's sons came by and made me watch while he ripped out
tons of cabinets and plaster.
There was a glitch that caused our new cabinets to arrive several weeks ahead
of our demolition completion. That meant taking out the cars and giving up
our entire garage for cabinet storage. Naturally, it rained buckets
shortly after they arrived, so I could worry all night about the new cabinets
getting soaked.

The driver of the tractor trailer called ahead and asked us to block
off the street next to the house. We put our two cars out on the
road, but it turned out the truck arrived during the day, so everyone
was off to work....except us of course. |

There goes the garage. It was full before, but the addition of
the cabinets left zip room for either compact car. This turned out
to be a great place for the installers to work. |
